Description:Handwoven Shawl with Naturally Dyed Silks Handwoven with 100% naturally dyed silk yarns! This eyecatching shawl is woven using many different coloured hand dyed silks which I dyed with natural dyes - indigo, cochineal, brazil wood together with madder, coreopsis and golden rod flowers and onion skins (from my garden and the fields surrounding my house). I wove these beautiful colours in a double weave which means that the shawl is double sided - with a different effect on each side. I used quite fine silks, woven in two layers which interchange at irregular intervals to give further colours and patterning. It took me many hours to create this shawl as I was, in effect, weaving two shawls at once - one on top of the other! There are too many colours to mention but the way they mix and interchange, each colour altering the next, is absolutely fascinating. This is a very special shawl - natural dyes give a particular luminescence to the silk and the colours are never harsh. Completely unique and very elegant, this is a shawl to be treasured for many years. Measurements are: 20" x 75", 51cm x 169cm finished with a hand knotted fringe. I advise hand washing and drying naturally. Pressing whilst still damp will bring out the lustre and beauty of the silk.
